More about CUB ('cause there can never be too much)

There's still an old CUB website on the internet, apparently inactive since 2000, but interesting and informative nonetheless.

And in my old files I found lots of old CUB stickers, newsletters,
and cutesy toys. I am grateful that I was a teenage packrat.... I am
in the process of digitising all of these old memories, which I hope
to post in the future...

Former CUB fans may be interested in multi-talented Lisa Marr's
new music projects, Buck, and the Lisa Marr Experiment. Check
out her cool new country-tinged tunes on her website!

What's Cooking? An update on Lisa G.

Update on Lisa G. from CUB! While I can't be 100% certain, I'm pretty sure Lisa G. (real name: Lisa Gertrud Nielsen) is now an award-winning NFB filmmaker and Director of Media Production with Rouxbe, a culinary instruction website!

Which gets me to thinking...what is it with former Canadian Indie Rockers and cooking related activities?!

Not only is CUB's Lisa G. now involved with culinary-type activities, but there's also Mike Clive, formerly the bass player with London, Ontario's high energy indie rockers, The New Grand (or Trout, as they were called in their very early days). Mr. Clive (who is now playing and touring with Jason Collett's band) was the host of "Sizzle with Michael P. Clive" on the W-Network, circa 2001-2002, and was at one time, at least, working on a cooking book to be published by Penguin Canada.

Mapping Canadian Indie Rock in the 90's

The purpose of this map will be to pinpoint the significant 1990s clubs where indie rock lived and thrived...

It's a work in progress, and new clubs and locations will be added as we learn about them...

CUB...still in love

Who remembers Cub? They used to be a favourite of mine... They even sent me postcards (but maybe they sent them to all their fans...)...

Cub was from Vancouver and they were one of Mint Records' early flagship bands. Their shows were cute and high energy, and the girls were always friendly and chatty after the show.

Lisa G. where are you now?!?

Documenting an important part of Canadian pop-culture history...

Along with my old friend and one-time bandmate, Paul De Decker, I've begun the every-so-enjoyable task of documenting the 1990's Canadian Indie Rock scene, as we experienced it. In addition to this blog, where we will post our memories and memorabilia, Paul and I have a book in the works... More on that later.

Fittingly, I want to include the text of a list I once kept of all the bands and shows that I attended. While this list abruptly ends in March, 1997, my concert experiences did not--I just simply stopped counting at that point.... But this journal, of sorts, marks the beginning of our project, so fittingly I want to share it...
